BRIDGEPORT, CT – The late Michael Koskoff spent more than 40 years fiercely defending people’s civil rights and protecting people and their families from the devastating effects of medical malpractice. His commitment to his clients and to the law was shown through his tenacity to fight for not only the people he represented but to earn the respect of judges and his adversaries throughout his entire career. His talents and commitments to the practice of law were recognized this month with his induction into the American Association of Justice (AAJ) Hall of Fame, which Josh Koskoff accepted on his father’s behalf.

Michael Koskoff was the son of Theodore “Ted” Koskoff who started the firm in 1936 with the dedication of helping people through some of the most difficult periods in their lives. Ted was one of the first attorneys ever inducted into AAJ’s Hall of Fame. More than 80 years later, the Connecticut firm is nationally recognized for achieving record breaking victories.

Together, Michael and Ted worked on some of the most high profile cases the legal industry has seen, including the representation of Lonnie McLucas, a New Haven member of the Black Panthers accused of murder in the early 70s. In 1979, Michael became the first lawyer to obtain a verdict of more than $1 million in a wrongful death case, which formed the focus of his career. Just before Michael’s passing, he and Josh jointly filed a landmark case against Harvard University for seizing and profiting from historic photographs of American Slaves.

The work that Michael Koskoff and his father Ted, did laid the groundwork for the historic victories Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder have become known for over the last several years. Most notably, the firm represents several families whose loved ones were killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre.

The induction into the Hall of Fame was one of three significant recognitions Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder received this July. The firm also won the Public Justice award for Trial Lawyer of the Year for its nearly $1.5 billion victory against Alex Jones; and Koskoff partner Kathleen Nastri received the AAJ Lifetime Achievement Award.
